On April 17, 2024, the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China issued the "Risk Warning on the Purchase of Food Containing NMN through Cross-border E-commerce Channels." On May 31, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China issued a new policy that explicitly prohibits the sale of food containing NMN ingredients on cross-border e-commerce platforms. (Products from Hong Kong, Canada, and Japan can still be sold for the time being). The basis for the implementation of this policy is that NMN（BETA-Nicotinamide Mononucleotide） has not obtained licenses for drugs, health foods, food additives, and new food raw materials in China.

Another part of the reason may be market chaos, such as false propaganda and cutting corners by merchants.
